Updates on COVID capacity guidelines

Dear Concordia students, faculty, and staff,

As we get further into the summer academic term, we continue to be deeply grateful for your commitment to each other and our COVID mitigation strategies. We will keep praying for so many in our campus community whose lives and livelihood have been impacted by COVID – either personally or through a loved one. Please pray for our nation and world, as well.

In order to foster a safe learning and working environment, Concordia continues to follow CDC guidelines.

Now that safe and highly effective vaccines are readily available to anyone age 12 and older, we are pleased to announce that the “COVID capacity” limits on the number of people permitted in most indoor campus spaces (classrooms, laboratories, offices, and most other spaces) will be lifted as of June 1, 2021. This means that our maintenance staff will begin replacing chairs in classrooms and other spaces, and the university will return to normal teaching and learning in classrooms.

This change is based on updated CDC guidelines which state that “fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear a mask or physically distance in any setting, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance.” “Fully vaccinated” is defined as two weeks after the second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or two weeks following a single-dose vaccine. Those who are not fully vaccinated are still required to wear masks indoors on our campuses when in any common spaces or when interacting with others. And as always, we strongly encourage everyone to be vaccinated.
