NACC cancels athletic competition through the end of academic year

March 13, 2020

An official statement of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC); the athletic conference of the Concordia Falcons.

The Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC), which Concordia Wisconsin is a member of, has announced the cancelation of the remaining spring sports seasons.

While we recognize the profound disappointment that will be felt by many student-athletes, parents, fans and coaches, the ongoing spread and uncertainty of COVID-19 have made the continuation of athletic activities unsustainable and we fully support the decision made the by NACC’s Council of Chief Executive Officers.

Concordia Wisconsin announced on Thursday the cancelation of all spring break trips, while the NCAA announced the decision to cancel all winter and spring sports championships.

NACC’s response to COVID-19

Milwaukee, WI. (naccsports.org) — With the health and safety of our student-athletes in mind, as well as the welfare of our campus communities as a whole, the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Council of Chief Executive Officers has unanimously come to the difficult decision to cancel all remaining athletic competition for the 2019-2020 academic year.

Institutions with teams that have returned from spring break trips will cancel athletic competition immediately. Institutions with teams currently on spring break trips will cancel athletic competitions upon the completion of those respective trips.

The cancellation includes all NACC spring regular-season competitions, championships, and awards in the sports of baseball, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s lacrosse, softball, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s outdoor track and field and men’s volleyball.

The decision comes following the NCAA Board of Governors’ decision to cancel the remaining winter and spring NCAA Championships and encouraging conferences and institutions to make decisions and take action in the best interest of their student-athletes and communities.

The conference commissioner will work with the Division III Commissioners Association and the NCAA to discuss impacts on eligibility for student-athletes.

Athletic department's response to COVID-19

We continue to monitor developments regarding the COVID-19 outbreak with your health and safety at the forefront of our decision-making. While there are no cases of COVID-19 at Concordia Wisconsin and we believe the risk to our students, faculty, and staff remains low, it is our responsibility to you and our greater community to be proactive in our efforts to prevent the spread of this illness. At the same time, we are committed to continuing the academic excellence and vital work of the university.

Concordia Wisconsin will suspend face-to-face instruction effective Monday, March 16. All courses (including labs) will be delivered online.

Alternate delivery of classes will begin on March 16 (or March 23 for those on spring break next week) and continue at least through Monday, April 13. A decision on when and whether in-person instruction will resume will be shared in early April.
